How to throw a Danish Christmas party

Our founder, Charlotte, shares her top tips for throwing an authentic scandi party this festive season.

The Danish party season is legendary.  December is spent dashing from one gloriously christmassy party to the next.  Here's how we manage to fit in so much fun and still be ready for the big day.

Danish Christmas Party hacks:

1. Invite everyone you will be happy to see - all ages and friendship groups welcome.  Christmas is all about mingling.

2. Make it a drop-in party. So it’s easy for everyone to make it.  A long time frame from eg from 4pm-11pm works well

3. Super-charge the scent of the space with Festivum candles, cloves and oranges. You want your guests to know it’s Christmas the minute they step through the door.

4. Decorate with conviction:  Christmas is not a time for understatement so go all out with armfuls of hedgerow-harvested greenery, lots of candles and bowls of clementines. The smell will help everyone feel christmassy.  You don’t need any actual decorations to create a spectacular seasonal scene.

5. Keep drinks super simple by just serving one kind of cocktail - or if you’re doing it the Danish way - Gløgg (mulled wine) and fizzy drinks for the kids

6. Same goes for food:  pick a single seasonal treat - either sweet or savoury - and serve it all night long.  I like to serve Æbleskiver which is a traditional Danish treat.
