From design touches to the way she embraces the season, we can’t wait to step inside her world.
Where is your summer home, and what drew you to this location?
Our summer house is by the beach in Long Island in Bridgehampton, NY. I’m a beach girl at heart. My family has a tiny cottage that my great grandfather built in Cape Cod that I went to growing up so I’ve always loved being by the ocean. It calms me and makes me happy.

Do you have any cherished rituals or routines that mark the start of the summer season?
Choosing flowers to plant in my cutting garden, working on home decor projects and working on my tennis game in prep for the summer.

How does the design of your summer home differ from your main residence?
I think the design of my house at the beach is more purposeful and thought out. Because we aren’t there as much, it’s much nicer and well kept than our busy house in Brooklyn which has 18 years of fingerprints smudged onto the walls. I also try to keep the colors by the beach very calming and relaxing. Lots of neutrals and blues. I also love being out at the beach so I keep my nicest things there like my nicest plates and ceramics.
What scents remind you of summer, and how do you incorporate them into your home?
I guess the smell of the ocean which you can smell all year round in the Hamptons. The smell of the flowers from my garden, especially roses. I like to bring the outdoors inside through the floral arrangements I make with the flowers from my garden. Of course I keep a VERDEN candle on my coffee table and by my bed.

What’s your favourite room or outdoor space, and how do you love to spend time there?
My favorite room is my kitchen because it’s so beautiful. It was designed by my friend Zoe Feldman. I like to sit on the long couch in my kitchen and read. It’s the epicenter of our house. I also love my bedroom because it’s so beautiful with wallpaper on the ceiling.
How do you bring the essence of summer into your interiors?
Through color I guess? And also through some of the botanical wallpapers I have chosen throughout the house. And flowers always.

What colours, textures, or materials define the feel of your summer retreat?
Blues, neutrals, I have a very happy green front door, green cabinets in the kitchen, grasscloth, natural linen curtains, gathered coverlets on the beds and on the sofa.
Is there a particular piece of furniture or décor item that embodies summer for you?
My giant kitchen island with its scallop detail along the edge. This is where I cook and where the family gathers.

What’s your ideal summer gathering at home—who’s there, what’s on the table, and what’s in the air?
My ideal summer gathering would be just me, my husband and our three kids out on the porch. I would put out a lovely tablecloth on the table and pretty linens, gorgeous plates and a flower arrangement from my garden.
